Whether you believe it or not, our Senior Pastor (SP) is a very generous giver. We are not referring to his giving away his money because we are in no position to comment on that.
We are referring to his giving away money from our Church Missions Fund. Please do not be mistaken. We are totally in support of giving to missions, to the poor and needy, to the underprivileged and to bring the Gospel to the dying world. But when it comes to giving a love offering to a guest speaker using Missions Fund, there should be a limit as to the quantum.
If our Church collects a love offering from the congregation and gives it all to the guest speaker, it is alright. In fact, that should be the correct approach. If, for some reason, we did not collect a love offering from the congregation but instead take from the Missions Fund and give a love gift to the guest speaker, it may still be acceptable provided it is reasonable. But is it reasonable when SP take a substantial sum from the Missions Fund and gives it as a love offering to his good-buddy preacher from down south?
That is what he did when Rev Robert Lim came to preach in our Church in 2003 for our Faith Promise Sunday. The June 2003 Missions accounts show that a love gift of S$10,000 was given to him (see the Missions accounts document attached). For just preaching at our 2 or 3 services in DH, this love gift is certainly a very big sum. We wonder what was the justification for this generous gift. This is a question SP and the Missions director have to answer. As we have no access to subsequent years’ accounts, we cannot comment if similar gifts were made for Rev Robert’s subsequent visits to Calvary.
The grapevine talk is that this is a common practice among some pastors, not all, we must add. It is their “holy” version of “You scratch my back, I scratch your back”. Call this speculation or what have you but this is human weakness and human nature. For example, if you are invited by your friend for his son’s wedding, what is the first thing you do. Yes, you would immediately check your diary or notebook to find out how much that friend gave you for your own son’s wedding. Our natural response is to make sure that we do not give less than what we have received.
The same with Chinese New Year ang-pows. Haven’t you parents been guilty at one time or another of asking your little son or daughter to peep into the ang-pow she has just received to see how much that aunty gave. You do this so that you can determine how much to give to that aunty’s children.
There is a benefit of giving generously, the more you give, the more you shall receive. Sounds biblical except that the giving pocket is different from the receiving pocket. So SP, in making this generous gift to Rev Robert, can expect a reciprocal treatment when he preaches at Rev Robert’s church in Singapore.
When Dr Lum first brought out the issue of the US$10,000 love gift that SP gave (without prior BOD approval) to Dr Guynes for chairing the last EGM, we had thought that it was a one-off extraordinary event. It would now appear that such arbitrary giving by SP is not uncommon. If the funds came from his own pocket, no one will complain but in both cases, the funds were taken from the Missions account.
Strangely, Rev Phil Stevenson was not given the same treatment. In his case, a love offering was even collected in his presence (unlike in Rev Robert and Dr Guynes’ cases) but whatever love offering collected WAS NOT given to Rev Phil (see the attached email from Rev Phil to Dr Lum confirming this fact).
From here, the readers can see the biasness of SP. He is generous to Rev Robert because they are good friends and SP stands to benefit (or may have benefited) from such giving. Rev Robert’s church is one of the larger churches in Singapore which means they can afford a generous love offering for their guest speakers. Rev Robert’s church is also said to have given SP’s wife her Honda Civic or so she claims.
Rev Phil, on the other hand, comes from a relatively small church in Perth and his church can barely afford a decent team of staff. There is no way they can offer a generous gift for their guest speakers. In this case, any love gift to Rev Phil will just be a pure giving away and so, poor Phil’s love offering was kept by our church. This immoral act is an embarrassment for Calvary Church and someone should be held accountable.
Someone should also be answerable for misusing the Missions Funds for this selective and arbitrary giving of love gifts.
Will the Chief Executive of Calvary Church, please stand up?
CT COMMENT:
Both Dr Guynes and Rev Phil’s cases were among the 23 issues raised by Dr Lum, who was then subjected to a Kangaroo trial and summarily terminated as a member. Dr Lum brought Rev Phil’s email to the Kangaroo Court on 28 Feb as evidence to prove his statement but was not given the opportunity to do so.
DR LUM WAS SACKED FOR TELLING THE TRUTH AND FOR REVEALING THE UNETHICAL AND IMMORAL PRACTICES IN CALVARY CHURCH AND THE HIGH-HANDEDNESS OF SP.
COMING NEXT
We will be publishing a statement from an ex-deacon. The statement supports 1 of the 23 issues raised by Dr Lum. In the self-explanatory statement, you will see that SP’s autocratic style is not something new. You will find out that from a long time ago, SP already had an dictatorial hold over the deacons and what has unfolded in the last one year is not that surprising.
COMING SOON
Would anyone spend RM21,000 on 8 wireless microphones and 1 headphone? Apparently our church did………with your money, of course!!
FINALLY.....
Both the Proposer and Seconder for the resolutions to reinstate Dr Lum were called to meet with the deacons and SP on April Fools’ Day. They were told point blank in their faces that their resolutions will NOT be tabled at this Saturday’s EGM. There was no room for negotiation or consideration. Another display of brazen dictatorial management.
All members who support a change in our Church must attend the EGM tomorrow and speak out boldly and vote wisely.

1) Looks like Phil Stevenson knew that he would not be receiving the offerings by his email.
2) No way Dr Lum would be reinstated from the way it was handled.
Wow! This is definitely enlightening.
They always say that TTG spread lies and are malicious.
I wonder what they all are going to say about this.
I am sure they will come out with a very good answer.
Just wait and see...within 24 hours!
That is how serious and closely they are watching this blog and others....
The real LIARS in CC are PG & BOD.
The TTG members have been most God-fearing & bold in their quest to restore the Truth, Transparency & good Godly Governance (TTG) back in CC.
May God punish the LIARS whoever they may be.
There's a lot of inference from 2 scanned documents which really can be played out both ways. I think it's important to point out that the love gift was given by the leadership that Dr Lum was a part of, not a personal one from Senior Pastor. It is not supported by context except a suggestion that Rev Robert Lim is Senior Pastor's old friend - a fact we all know since they speak about it.
In such a case, context is important so I will refrain from suggesting anything else on my part since I am not privy to the decision. Nor should Calvary Today I may add.
On Rev Phil Stevenson's claims, perhaps the question that should be asked if why? Has there been a reason for Calvary to withold this? Again, context is important and all we read is that it didn't happen and not why.
I still feel that the EGM is a good place to discuss this - behind closed doors and before the brethren and our God.
I guess its going to be a long and challenging afternoon in the EGM this Sat.
But you can be sure that the whole EGM will be so well planned and strategized with the help of all our APs that the EGM will end before you know it.
Lets pray that He will be in control and not him.
It is definitely a case of 'you scratch my back & I scratch yours' relationship between PG & Rev. Robert Lim, between PG & Cho Yonggi, etc.
I received feedback (hush-hush)from a reliable source (a church staff at that time), that when PG's grandson had to go for a heart operation, Rev. Robert Lim's church collected S$60,000/- for him & it obviously went straight into his personal coffers. In the meantime, I remember seeing in the Financial Report of that year that Missions Funds coughed up RM25,000/- for that operation. Somebody please verify this as it happened many years ago.
May I know who had taken the money?? Afterall, there was a collection..
NUMB to $'000,000,000
Once a upon a time SP & wife (SAP) used to at least welcome and seemed happy to receive hampers gifts from members who showed them their sincere love-
And one same member who did a few years ago, with some selected household gifts( which she took pains to choose, in her mind the best she could give) was given the brush-off! The member was deeply hurt by the manner SAP made small of the gift.
To those of us who already knew, her (his too) standards and expectations of Gifts are anything from 5 digit $,lavish tours/holidays, gourmet feting, blink-blink stones and to a RM130,000 Honda Civic. Now try to beat that if you want to impress and get a 'love' hug.
It's all EXCESSESS.
A bro, remarked "the World has come into the church" Indeed, how sorrowful a situation.
Hello who will scratch my back?
Not sure if you are right or not. The operation money may not be taken from Missions Fund but the Main Church accounts. Can't remember which category but I remember seeing it but yet not seeing (you understand what I mean.) Many of us those days were very trusting and sadly "couldn't be bothered" or "tidak apa" when it comes to AGM and accounts. We just wanted to get it over and go home. Oh coming back to the medical fees, it was highlighted to me by a church staff then who said, "You think the church will pay for us if our child got sick?" Whether from Missions or Church accounts, the church did pay becoz I remember the church staff's question. I know I know they are going to say, he is Pastor's kid and Sr Pastor's grandson.
Come on, Josh...if you want to ask why Ps Phil wasn't given his offering, I'm sure the church leadership can come up with a 1,001 excuses. They will tell you that they used the money collected from the offering to pay for Ps Phil's airfare. But my question is, how come only Ps Phil's airfare had to be paid by the offering that the youths (most of them still studying and giving to Ps Phil with the intention of blessing him) whilst other pastors' airfares are paid for by the church? Many youths gave thinking it was to be given directly to ps Phil and Ps Phil himself also thought he would be given that offering as a love offering. But he got nothing. zero. As compared to next year's youth camp whereby our own PG preached and SK actually had the nerve to ask the youths (most of are still studying, may I add) to give love offering to PG. They collected about RM2k for PG, but my question is..this is PG's own youth group, he is already earning a big fat 5 figure salary from the church, so why does he still want love offering from the teenagers in his church while poor Ps Phil got nothing??
To double standards. I also cannot understand how our pastors can ask for christmas love offering every year from us church goers when they are already receiving so big fat salaries and confirmed bonuses. Some of us don't even know if we will get bonus every year end. I think better become pastor lah - guaranteed salary good or bad times. Somemore can simply ask for love offering from church goers. Preach in own church also want love offering, how much more preach in others church.
Hi Josh,
I really like your confidence and statement which reads "I still feel that the EGM is a good place to discuss this - behind closed doors and before the brethren and our God." Nothing wrong with that.
May I suggest that you put forward this question of Rev. Phil's collection to the Chairman and the BOD tomorrow afternoon? As you know the last agenda for the day would be other matters of the church, so go ahead and see what happens. Be prepared to be disappointed. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED AND DISCOURAGED with the way the previous EGM chaired by Dr. Guynes was run.
All the best to you Josh. You can be VERY SURE I'll support you for asking that question.
God bless.
Dear Josh,
U commented "I think it's important to point out that the love gift was given by the leadership that Dr Lum was a part of, not a personal one from Senior Pastor."
All of us know very well that Dr Lum & the other 6 Deacons were part of CC's leadership. Most of us also know that such decisions are made by PG & later ratified by the BOD (just like in the case of the USD 10,000 for Guynes to chair the last EGM).
So Josh, there's a lot that you are not aware of. If I were you, I will just keep my eyes & ears open to watch as PG & PG2 play out the drama at CC.
“I love you congregation” declared Sp.. “you give so generously!”
Perhaps, many will now know the real reason, and able to clearly see how the Missions FUND has been used, and how we the members had been had for a large part of its existence, in the disposal of the monies, albeit there were token church planting and very selective Missions projects to give it the gloss.
Consider this:
Missions Fund have been used as a leverage :
1. to make himself “famous” ( as testified by many Visting Speakers “Your pastor is famous around the world) comes from FAITH Promise.
( why not CC is a Big sponsor and donor, and he gets the Credit)
2. to get his Datukship ( because of Calvary land Project, but now a a white elephant, since his objective is realised)
3. to get a Board seat /chairmanship on International Christian Bodies.
4. to realize his own ambition to build the most expensive church building (actually, a convention centre) at all cost, even putting the Church in debt,
to leave behind his legacy.
5. to bless who ever he chooses so that in return he gets ‘bless’ himself
6. to launch his personal Ministry --Calvary International Ministries (passed-off
as CC’s extended ministry)
7. ..and God knows what else
Missions Funds come from Faith Promise. With its few Millions$ pledged twice a year, it’s a ‘Cash Cow”. No wonder it’s given so much emphasis, and high powered
Speakers are invited for these ‘special’ occasions.
Look closer at the Missions Budget one will realize it can be manipulated.
Ever wonder why *EXCESS in the Missions Funds should go to church Building Fund? There are endless needs out in the harvest fields, even right in our own backyard, why wouldn’t these monies be used for genuine missions work? And isn’t there already an on-going CCC fund?
Also, classifications is not ‘what you see is what you get’. For example, who would have even guessed, the annual RM 200,00 given to CIM was ‘parked’ under “Other Organisations” and ‘”Welfare Fund” could be used to pay for Air fare to America for SP’s granddaughter & BOD’s ‘Assoc pastor Children? Now, I can understand what BOD meant when they said with a straight face, that it’s all ‘accounted for! ( only, that
these utilization are so well ‘parked’ under those classifications that no members could never know where to find it )
And the wasteful spending such as purchase of Cordless Microphones & headphone at over RM20,000+ ( thanks to CT for the expose’ or we would have forever remained in ignorant bliss, as SP and BOD gang wished)
It’s really pitiful if those who knows God’s righteousness, still want to condone
all these acts of deception, misrepresentation, abuses that have taken place in the House of God, and defend in vain what is clearly indefensible.
YAWN....aaaagh....
Suddenly my sleep was broken
when I saw SP banging his fist and stomping his feet on the table to get point to his stooges.
I cant imagine Jesus doing this to his Disciples.
I only see Jesus mourning over the situation and He has paid it all when they cruelly nailed Him to the old rugged cross.
His compassionate encompassed Him when He welled in tears as He watched over the EGM this afternoon at 2 pm.
Let His Name reigns & shine forever & ever.
To God Be the Glory

Dear MS,
Yes, I think you are right. The RM25,000/- coughed up for for G grandson's operation could be taken from the main church account as it appeared in that year's financial report.
I know what you mean....we see that big figure in the financial report, but nobody asked questions about it, as everybody understood that SOMEBODY had to pay for that poor child's operation, so we just accepted it, get the AGM over with, & everybody go home early!!
The only thing we didn't know was, Robert Lim's church had already collected S$60,000/- to pay for it, so there was really no necessity to take that money from the church account!
Referring to the article "Why was Dr. Lum Sacked?", point 5, I beg to differ on what has been written on 'freemason' and Dr. Lum.
The country's Constitution guarantees freedom of worship and freedom to associate. Yes, we are in a country which practices Islam as its official religion, we can practice any religion we want and we are at liberty to associate with any body of a different religion. This is tolerance. In our lives, Christians and non-Christians provide their services to each other to satisfy each others' needs. This is purely a business transaction and it does not intrude our beliefs e.g. (1) I visit a doctor not knowing that he is a freemason, he treats me and i pay for his services; (2) a pilot who is a freemason - he flies me safely to my destination and we go our separate ways; (3) I enjoy my Muslim food pays and go. See what I mean - purely service provided only. If any of the above intrude into my belief and try to change my thinking, I also have the choice to terminate his/her service immediately.
However having a freemason building the Church is a different matter. In buildings, monuments or designs that they undertake, they often leave a masonic symbol e.g. (1) the torch on the Statute of Liberty is the "torch of enlightenment; (2) Washington D.C. is also based on a masonic design and (3) the American dollar has the "all seeing eye" which is also another masonic symbol. And I think freemasons may have a east-west orientation in their building designs. If that takes place, it is very, very difficult to remedy the situation in cost, time and whether it is practical.
Anyway, it is hoped that all will be well as the writer mentioned that the designer undertaking this project is not a freemason.
It is also mentioned in this article that Dr. Lum "should not provide his services to a non-believer". Need I remind the writer that doctors have to take the mandatory Hippocratic oath. However, today, a member of the medical profession abides by the Declaration of Geneva. I pick out a few points relevant here:
I solemnly pledge to consecrate my life to the service of humanity;
I will not permit considerations of age, disease or disability, creed, ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political affiliation, race, sexual orientation, social standing, or any other factor to intervene between my duty and my patient;
I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity.
So, one can see that a doctor, mindful of the above, will have to treat any person whatever faith he/she practices.
Let's have a bird's eye-view and not a fish's eye-view.
Is it possible to post a recap of the things that transpired today at the EGM - for the benefit of those who had to work today?
To ct
what happen to the comment column? cannot be published? when i clicked open id?
Hi Calvarites
since CU suggested to go authority?
why not go to authority?
With regards to the comment by "the truth is out there" (April 4, 2009 11:03 PM, CT wishes to clarify that the article referred to by the said reader was an article published in the alternate blog, not in CT.
In reply to "ID" (April 5, 2009 9:13 AM), CT has NOT disable the 'Open ID' in the Comment box. When CT tested it just now, it was ok. Probably, it was just a temporary glitch in Google's server at that moment.
CT intends to publish a news update on yesterday's EGM but we hope that you will be patient. The writer whom CT assigned the task, is still carefully running through the audio recording of the EGM to make sure what is published is the truth.
3 Steps to FORGIVENESS
Yes. We must forgive
Forgive us as we forgive those
who have sinned against us.
Take note that three steps are involved.
1stly, REPENTANCE that is sincere
And it has to be for each separate sin committed.
2ndly, RESTITUTION, that must be all encompassing.
There is a paying back for all things stolen
& correction of all fallacies made.
3rdly,REFORMATION of the person,
Leading to genuine correction of
character flaws that is the cause of the sin.
And we will definitely forgive,
Mercifully, graciously and lovingly.
It just takes three steps......
But it may take some time....

RECONCILATION ??
TTG & BOD to sit down and work out a reconciliation?
Lets say 2 TTG & 2 BOD members ?
And one neutral Chairman ?
Not possible !!
2 TTG & 2 BOD have opposite mindsets,
And will cancel each other out.
Neutral Chairman can give casting vote
But no such person exists in Calvary.
Better to seek AOG Superintendent
To set up an INDEPENDENT PANEL
to sort out ALL allegations.
So we can clear the air once & for all
AND START AFRESH.
Lets not leave any stones unturned.

The bible says
You can’t be greater
than the master you serve.
Your master should be the Master
But you are becoming like the master you serve !
Your answers in the AGM
Were not coming out straight
But in twists & turns
In truths that are
s--t--r--e--t--c--t--h--e—d
Or delivered in two half lies
So that they had the appearance of truth.
IN SHORT YOU BOTH ARE BECOMING
Like the master you serve,
And like him
you have lost the credibility
you need to serve in the BOD.

"Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of UNCLEAN LIPS."
Isaiah 6:5
When I get into the presence of God,
I do not realize that I am a sinner in an indefinite sense;
I realize the concentration of sin in a particular feature of my life.
A man will say easily - 'Oh, yes, I know I am a sinner'; but when he gets into the presence of God he cannot get off with that statement.
The conviction is concentrated on - I am this, or that, or the other. This is always the sign that a man or woman is in the presence of God.
There is never any vague sense of sin, but the concentration of sin in some personal particular.
God begins by convicting us of the one thing fixed on in the mind that is prompted by His Spirit; if we will yield to His conviction on that point, He will lead us down to the great disposition of sin underneath.
That is the way God always deals with us when we are consciously in His presence.
This experience of the concentration of sin is true in the greatest and the least of saints as well as in the greatest and the least of sinners.
When a man is on the first rung of the ladder of experience, he may say - I do not know where I have gone wrong; but the Spirit of God will point out some particular definite thing.
The effect of the vision of the holiness of the Lord on Isaiah was to bring home to him that he was a man of unclean lips.
"And he laid it upon my mouth, and said Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged."
The cleansing fire had to be applied where the sin had been concentrated.

DR. LUM & LALITHA
Members of the Calvary Church for 40 years
Both served for about the same time
Both contributed financially for 40years
SOME OF THAT MONEY WENT INTO PG1 PG2 35K monthly pay
Pg1 PG2 – BOD just had to sack Dr. Lum as a church member
FOR TWO REASONS:
1.He told PG1 he disagreed with the way PG1 ran the church.
2.He told the congregation his reasons for stepping down as Deacon.
He was elected by the congregation to be a Deacon
& the same congregation has a right to know why he stepped down as a Deacon.
DR. LUM is a VICTIM of the
VINDICTIVENESS of one man -- PG1
—who was furious that his monthly stipend was revealed to the congregation.
The BOD, of course, just played along
(as they usually do—don’t expect anything more from them)
