Detailed Account of CIM Travel Expenses

The TTG had a meeting recently and realised that the Chart on " CIM TRAVELLING EXPENSES" posted on 1st November 2008 may have led to some misinterpretation as the Chart actually showed the consolidated amount for travelling expenses incurred from 2002 to 2007.

Since the amounts shown has attracted so much interest among the readers, we feel that it is only proper to show the full details of the Travel Expenses incurred on a yearly basis. This is to avoid any unnecessary speculation and assumption by readers.

We sincerely apologise if the consolidated chart has caused any misunderstandings and misinterpretation to the readers.

Below is the revised Chart prepared by Bro Siew Chyuan. All the figures were extracted from the CIM audited accounts which he has personally viewed together with 3 other TTG members.

For the benefit of all bloggers/readers, I have just re-looked at the CIM audited a/cs (as copied by me) & shared with Bro. Hong Meng (HM). I now realised that in an effort to fit all the figures onto the blog, HM had left out the 5 columns (for the years 2003 to 2007) & shown only the last column which is the total column.

Thus, I wish to clarify to all bloggers/readers that the RM 75,786 spent on USA – Global Pastors Network was actually incurred over 2 years (RM 33,428 in 2005 & RM 42,358 in 2006) & not in 1 year.

Similarly, the figure of RM 37,174 for Korea – Church Growth Int. Conference was spent over 3 years (RM 10,654 in 2005, RM 16,870 in 2006 & RM 9,650 in 2007).

Other than the above mentioned 2 figures, I confirm that all the other figures were incurred in 1 year only, as follows:

From Designated Fund 2007 – RM 15,467 to RM 693,2006 – RM 27,838 to RM 1,328,2005 – RM 16,957 & RM 55,731,2004 – RM 12,986 to RM 3,141, and2003 – RM 1,263 to RM 387 From General Fund2007 – RM 11,521, and2006 – RM 3,330.The total amount of RM 477,625 spent on Meetings & Conferences on a per year basis is as follows:2003 – RM 48,509,2004 – RM 111,259,2005 – RM 116,988,2006 – RM 124,968 and2007 – RM 75,901.

(Click on the CHART to view a larger picture. Click on "BACK" at the top left hand corner, to return to this page)

Btw, as have been mentioned by most bloggers/readers, let’s leave SP’s children & grandchildren out of all this mess – OK?

Thanks for the clarification, but even then, RM42k and RM33k for each trip to the USA is also unjustifiable. I say we shud still go ahead and drill down on what these 2 amounts were used for.

yes the church should be more prudent in spending money.
The money has been given in trust and it should be spent wisely. The church should be thrifty in its spending.
An economy flight to US should cost about 6,000 per person the most. Why so much?

Wah! So much difference in fares between economy & business class!

That was why the Mayor of London prudently AND HUMBLY chose to travel by economy class when he went to Beijing for the closing ceremony to receive the Olympic flag from China.

Would SP & SAP & their video-man, JG, humbly choose to do the same, in view of the global financial crisis, and perhaps, HUMBLY condescend to return the RM.1.9 million to the church, as a GOODWILL gesture, so that it can cover part of the cost for CCC, so that the old ladies, the retrenched & the students can be spared from having to donate their 'charp farn' money to the CCC?

Hmmmm?

Mayor of London, we need you help!!!
SAP mentioned in the ladies meeting that she lost a bag.

Maybe we should go for a treasure hunt for this bag. I already called my friend in London to look for this special bag.

Of course is not just the bag, lah!!

IS THE CONTENTS INSIDE!!!!!

Can anyone guess??????

Dear Economy Rice,

To illustrate your question on why there's such a big difference in economy and business airfares, think of these two menus:

1) Economy Rice (chap fan) at Chinese coffeshop = RM3.50 (rice + 3 dishes - 1 meat with 2 vegie)

2) Chicken Chop (Secret Recipe) = RM17.50

I have eaten both, and of course I prefer menu no. 2.

Business Then, Economy Now said...

Dear Economy Rice,

For business class, the seats are bigger and more comfortable so you can rest better.

The legroom is also more spacious but definitely not enough for LOTT.

Service is also better. You embark and disembark before the rest.

How do I know? Well, last time I flew business but now I'm on economy. You know, times are bad.

Savings said...

Dear Business Then, Economy Now

You are thrifty person.

I propose that SP should also economy as times are bad.

Looking at the MAS airfares, business is almost 4.5 times that of economy. There's a lot of savings.

I'm no accountant so can someone help me with the savings in percentage. Thanks.

Hie, I read the article from beritacalvary on pastor's finance;
here is my comment:
very inspiring and informative article, I call on all pastors to emulate and learn good and proper financial integrity as per said (in the article)

However, if calvary church had been following these guidelines, I believe the senior pastor who is the main scandal in the saga would not have committed some of the possible mishandling and misconduct.

I also read that and personally aware that the children are also involve in cheques signing, in collecting money and fees and some charges on counselling from public into their extended ministry and the account was not attached in the annual report for AGM/EGM.

Whereas his wife own the calvary bookstore which is a sole proprietor.

Thank you CT for this new chart. You see this is what happens when people tell half truths. When CT show the consolidated amounts, ppl jump to conclusion - very bad right? Even CT & TTG make mistake. Giving not full picture like church telling half truth.

But at least CT & TTG when realise their mistake come out and say sorry and give us the full picture. They don't continue to let us think and believe the half truth. To me they are like protecting SP.

How about our BOD, and church leaders? Can we have the full picture? I think at the EGM, the "kwai low" auditor was supposed to tell us how to be more transparent but he did not get a chance, so when can we have the full picture? Or do we have to vote at the next AGM, no need to show us. Remain as status ko or something like that.

Auditor said...

Speaking of the "kwai loh" auditor brings to mind that he had only looked at the CIM accounts & not the Missions Dept (or CC) accounts. Yet he had commented that the internal controls are lacking. Since CIM is a personal ministry, I shall not comment on the possible "misdeeds" that can happen when internal controls are lacking.

Btw, I heard that both the "kwai loh" auditor & that "criminal" lawyer were brought in as the BOD were concerned that perhaps the TTG crew is right that there was "conflict of interest" & thus "CBT" by SP &/or BOD. If so, won't you agree that if there is any such misdeed, then it would have happened at CC & not at CIM (the recipient of "tainted" funds)?

Why then did the "kwai loh" auditor check & gave us a clean report on CIM & not on CC? Could it be a case of "GIGO - Garbage In Garbage Out" i.e. he was given a "flawed" brief by the BOD & God knows who?

A learned judge once said that the auditor is like a bloodhound but I suppose if you give the bloodhound the wrong scent, he will go chase in the wrong direction.

Next time, try telling your doctor the wrong symtoms & see whether you will get the right medicine or the wrong medicine.

BOD, in reading, there is a doctor amongst the 7 of you, just give the doctor the right symtoms loh. Why hide them from him? Worse still, why call off BOD meetings at last minute & then hold it behind the doctor's back. Why meet up with Guynes behind the doctor's back (before the EGM)? So that you can give Guynes the wrong symtoms, is it?

Are the other 6 Deacons afraid of taking the right medicine? Like that how can CC get healed eh? Scripture says the bitter medicine is good for the heart. Also says about "spare the rod & spoil the child", which will then create a monstrous child/adult - that's what you have done BOD, you have created a monster in the SP of today. Give us back the SP of old, the one that we love & who love God & not mammon.

Business class. no shame kah?

Simpleman said...

Dear Anonymous who took a ship to London to do his degree.

Wah, this must have been a long time ago, in the 50s or 60s, I guess.

By the way, many top business people also travel economy, one of them being the chairman of a top-ranked conglomerate in Malaysia.

That's the way to go.

The savings from flying economy can be channelled to support so so many more pastors and full-time workers so that God's work can be done so so much faster, and in the process, speed up our Lord's soon return.

Don't you think so, SP and BOD?

Simpleman said...

Just a clarification : the savings I referred to in my earlier comment is not from the chairman of a top-ranked conglomerate in Malaysia, but from SP flying economy instead of business.

Better clarify, otherwise kena from CT bloggers, especially the not-too-friendly ones. Thanks

Dear Dr. Paramsothy,

Thanks for your invaluable insight and encouragement to all of us who dare to stand up for the Truth.

The way you have articulated your thoughts and experiences tells me that you are indeed a man after God's heart, and not that of men's.

We concerned Calvarites are indeed very glad that you came onbroad this blog to share your simple yet profound thoughts and experiences with us.

May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. We need more men and women of God who dare to speak up without fear or favour, and in love for the good of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Well, in the spiritual realm, when the goings get tough, it is NOT the tough that gets going. It's the MEEK in the Lord who will get going.

It's definitely not those who simply say "let God be God" and watch the hurting world go by, reminding us of the old favourite "As Tears Go By".

Thanks Dr Param for reminding us of the importance of looking to God and His guidance as we continue to soldier on to restore Truth, Transparency and Good Governance not only in Calvary Church Kuala Lumpur but more importantly in every congretation where the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ is preached and worshipped.

Yes, we will continue to put our trust in our Lord who is always on the side of the Truth. Amen.

Simpleman said...

A message to all non-CC attendees.

As Dr Param who attends another church has taken time to encourage us in CC to continue to stand up for truth, we concerned Calvarites in the same token also want to encourage non-CC attendees to seek Truth, Transparency and Good Governance in your local congregation if you see any practices contrary to God's high standards.

You must be bold to rid the ugliness from your church and restore Truth, Transparency and Good Governance.

I'm sure God will be pleased to see His children stand up for Truth, Transparency and Good Governance.

So, fellow brethren from other churches who have either been referred to this blog by CC attendees for the right or wrong reasons, or those who have strayed into this blog by God's design, you have been challenged to ensure Truth, Transparency and Good Governance in your local church.

Be God's instrument to make that CHANGE. God bless.

Dear Brothers &

THE ROOT OF BITTERNESS

"See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." Hebrews 12:15

The enemy of our souls has a very specific strategy to destroy relationships. Whether these relationships are in business, marriage, or friendships, the strategy is the same.

A conflict arises, judgments are made, and feelings are hurt. What happens next is the defining point of whether the enemy gains a foothold, or the grace of God covers the wrong.

When a root of bitterness is allowed to be planted and grown, it not only affects that person, but it also affects all others who are involved. It is like a cancer.

Breaking satan's foothold requires at least one person to press into God's grace. It cannot happen when either party "feels" like it, for none of us will ever feel like forgiving.

None of us feel like talking when we have been hurt. Our natural response is to withdraw or lash out at the offending party.

It is only obedience that allows God's grace to cover the wrongs incurred. This grace prevents the parties from becoming victims who will seek compensation for their pain.

The next time you are hurt by someone, realize the gravity of the crossroads where you find yourself.

Choose grace instead of bitterness.

Then you will be free to move past the hurt, and a root of bitterness will not be given opportunity to grow.

Dear Simpleman

Thanks for your valuable comment. I really hope more Christians are like you (irrespective of their church or denomination) and willing to speak up for the need for Truth, Transparency and Good Governance in churches.

I have been trying to get national Christian organisations to establish some form of best practices and guidelines so that Malaysian churches (irrespective of denomination) have some guidelines to ensure that every church (irrespective of denomination) operates within the best practices framework. But without much success. It is only as more Christians support this course will the national christian bodies pay attention.

It is sad that only now Christians are voicing for the need for Church Governance (whether rightly or wrongly) after reading about events at Calvary (True or perceived and with my apology that this wonderful church has been drawn into this issue - I wished it was otherwise).

No church should become a victim of conflict for the whole body suffers. Unfortunately, it is beyond our control the way events unfold.

In my experience with previous Church crisis, the Internet was not so developed and hence, communication was restricted. Fortunately or unfortunately, today, the Internet has enabled communication at the speed of light (Bill Gates)and Christians have become Global. Hence, those within and without the church blog and voice their opinion - rightly or wrongly.

On the positive side, it is only as more and more Christians voice out the need for Governance, does it make it easier for those like me (there are others) to bring the issue to the attention of National Christian bodies.

So thank you sir/madam. Your e-mail/blog is an additional voice I can use to bring to the attention of the leaders of national christian organisations on the need for Good Governance.

Of course, why should we bother. History has shown that only as the minority Christians voiced their opinion did the world hear. Hence slavery was abolished, women allowed to vote, end to child labour, etc)

Ecclesiastes 3 - A Time for Everything
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to uproot,
A time to kill and a time to heal, A time to tear down and a time to build,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
A time to embrace and a time to refrain,
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend, A time to be silent and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate, A time for war and a time for peace.

What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil— this is the gift of God.

14 I know that everything God does will endure for ever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him."

Better still if the pastors can do that.

What do you say???????

A Far Away Servant of the Lord said...

Yezzz!! It's ALWAYS time to pray. This is a war not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world/Land, against spritiual forces of evil in the heavenly realms ......(Eph6:10-18)
So lets DECLARE WAR and God will cleanse the church. God is on the side of those whose hearts are seeking His Kingdom and righteousness. The battle is His and He'll be glorified in His Church.
BUT remember, you are NOT fighting against flesh and blood.... SO PRAY!!!
This is the time that God uses CC situation to draw everyone to Himself to seek Him. It's NOTHING to difficult for Him. He changes Pharoah's hardened heart and opened up the Red Sea because Israelites were desperate and were standing at the edge...so stay desperate for God to bring repentance, reconciliation and restoration to CC but first He need to shake His church because He loves her too much to let her stays in her filthy rags.

I somehow feel that the change in CC has to be in 2008 from what is happening in Malaysia and US.

It will be a New Beginning!

NeNe said...

The BOD should be bold to initiate steps to revamp the current church structure, ie. Pastoral, Administration and Finance, and the organisational leadership.

The 3 core functions should be headed by 3 different individuals/committees, unlike the current structure where SP is the head of all 3.

This is very unhealthy as near-absolute power is vested in SP, and I believe this is the root cause of the problems facing CC today.

BOD, to resolve the impasse faced by CC, please look into the church structure URGENTLY.

Also put in place certain checks and balances to ensure there's no abuse of power by any individual(s).

The present church structure must be changed, and the primary agent of change is the BOD. You have a moral obligation to members and more importantly to GOD.

So, members of the CC BOD, rise up and do something to restore truth, transparency and good governance.

Don't be folled by SP's standard comment whenever the issue of truth, transparency and good governance is raised : "we are a church and we don't operate like corporations".

Remember, God demands even higher standards that the corporate sector. We're in God's business

Drive around said...

I think I have a better suggestion. Let us drive around the church in our cars and pray for cc after Sunday services before we head on home. This way it is less noticeable by the church leaders. If we march around on foot, may be tiring for some lack of exercise people (like me) and pity the ladies with high heels and nice clothes. I will start this sunday.

Change we need said...

I shared nene's view that BOD must seize this moment to make bold changes to our church constitution.

Senior Pastor as CEO and Sn Pastor is unbiblical. Christ is not pleased. Our God is a big God who can raise up many many men and women who can do great exploits for God.

Senior Pastor is narrow-minded and self-serving for himself and family. All others just not qualify in his eyes.

This brand of leadership is an obstacle to explosive growth. For his failure, he shifted Calvarites' attention thinking that the Convention Centre is the answer. How wrong he is thinking that big church is mega building. It's all about people.

Look at what's happened and happening. Pastors, deacons and lay leaders are not given opportunities to be developed to their fullest potential for God. Most good leaders are serving outside the church as Senior Pastor can't accept dissent or feels threaten.

Do pray for confirmation that the church needs a new person to take over as Senior Pastor. We pray against any spirit of deception.

Can walk as a family or just gather 2 or 3 people and start the walk. Need not do it after 2nd service, in fact anytime after or before church services.

3)Have you no conscience that you are obligated to those of us who elected you to office to look after our vested interest honestly?

4) Is it not true that you only need 2/3 majority within the BOARD TO start things moving in the right direction of TRUTH, TRANSPARENCY, GOVERNANCE?

Whatever is mentioned in CT is only the tip of an iceberg and many of you have been on the board for many years - you know the truth of the matter and will you please do your part by coming forwards to speak the truth?

Please note that one day all of us will stand before the judgement seat of the Lord and will give an account of what we have done and what should be done and not done for Him? Would you earn "you have been my faithful servant"?

I agree with abc, and I also implore the BOD to do the right thing by getting the rectification process moving. This may involve convening an EGM with the necessary Agenda tabled.

Dear BOD, I am sure all of us will agree that the best solution is for SP to have a change of heart and willingly on his own admit to some mistakes, return the balance funds from CIM, support a Constitution modification, undo his acts of nepotism, etc. However, in my personal opinion there is about zero likelihood that he will do this. A person who practices such dastard acts like Legs on the Table (LOTT), throw files on floor and misuse of the pulpit will most likely turn a deaf ear to the voice of God spoken to him through counless concerned church members including the TTG. He has already gone too far down the worldly road and tasted too much of the good life to willingly turn back.

While we may still let him have a chance to repent, there has to be a deadline which cannot be too long. Therefore, BOD, each of you please search your hearts. You are placed in your positions for a purpose, and that purpose is not to serve one man, even though that man may have been anointed once upon a time. Now, all of us have to move on and do the right thing, painful though it may be.

Thanks for asking and God bless.

prayer for fair play said...

To "fair play" at 8.20am,

Just in case you haven't notice, there is this Note under "Purpose of the Blog" as follows:-

"Note: In your comments and feedback, please refrain from using hateful, malicious or vulgar words. Always be respectful of one another."

I hope that you are not the one who posted the "curses" under anonymous. If you are, shame on you.

How can you even have the cheek then to point out that your hateful comment was deleted; don't you know that when you point at others with your "index" finger, there are 3 more fingers pointing at yourself?

May I suggest that you go to God in prayer for forgiveness & repentance. Time being the essence, let me start off for you .........

Our Father in Heaven, please forgive my dear brother/sister (fair play &/or anonymous) for posting "curses" on this Christian blog. He/she is probably doing so out of blind loyalty to SP.

Speak to him/her in his/her quiet time with You & let him/her know that he/she should fear God & not man, even man of God.

Let him/her know that You hate a liar & SP has lost Your anointing as SP now possess a lying spirit. Remove the scales from my brother/sister's eyes & remove the earwax from his/her ears so that he/she will be able to see the real Truth & hear the real Truth; for You are the God of Truth. Amen!
